Tamar Guimarães (Belo Horizonte, 1967) lives and works in Copenhagen. She produces installations, films and sound pieces that originate in historical research, often incorporating archival material and objects. Her pieces present themselves as types of visual essays which borrow codes from dance, cinema and theater to call attention to the cultural, economic and ideological processes which underlie the construction of hegemonic historical narratives. The different manifestations of spirituality and the relationship between classes within the context of Brazilian Modernism, are some of the topics the artist approaches in her earlier work.
