Robert Beck

USA

In a body of moving image work that spans the mid-1980s to the present, Robert Beck merges cinematic, televisual, and visual art strategies to singular effect. From his conceptual cable access television series of the 1980s through his 1990’s activist works, “alternative” music videos and found-footage pieces, Beck’s eclectic influences range from Robert Bresson and George Romero to Jacques Lacan and forensic science. Beck, who changed his surname to Buck in 2008 as an act of art, was born in 1959 and lives in New York.
