Rita GT

Portugal

A critical and interventionist artist, approaching themes such as memory, identity and the importance of human rights. Having lived in many different countries enables her to have a broader vision, valuing the historical points of view of many cultures. The colonial symbolism that is recurrent in her work defines her own identity and artistic language. The artist uses imagery, words and performance, revealing a constant interrogation and experimentalism in both material and conceptual aspects. GT has been showing her work at important institutions and galleries in Portugal, the United Kingdom, Angola, South Africa, East-Timor, Nigeria, Brazil and Germany.
Rita GT is the co-founder of the e-studio Luanda project, and the commissioner for the Angolan Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale (2015).
Artist residency programs Rita GT earned and participated in: Walk&Talk, Azores (2018-9), INOV-Art, Capacete residency, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil (2007-8) and Galeria ZDB, Lisbon (2006-7).
