Carolee Schneemann is a groundbreaking multidisciplinary artist whose works range across disciplines, encompassing painting, performance, photography, film and video. Shattering taboos and redefining the notion of the erotic, she confronts sexuality, gender, and the social construction of the female body. Her prescient investigations into themes of female identity and subjectivity in relation to art making and art history continue to be enormously influential. Schneemann was born in 1939 and lives in New Paltz, New York.
