FUSO 2019 Program revealed!
FUSO returns to Lisbon between the 27th of August and the 1st of September, featuring the work of invited artists Antoni Muntadas and Pedro Barateiro, and video art sessions programmed by Portuguese and international curators.
This 11th edition of the only outdoor video festival in Lisbon will present six summer nights of free sessions, at unique locations such as the gardens and cloisters of the main museums of Lisbon.
Antoni Muntadas, Spanish artist who has lived in New York since the 70s, and is one of the pioneers of multimedia and conceptual art in Spain, is coming to Lisbon to present two sessions, conceived and programmed by him, made up of six of his videos, some of which will be exhibited for the first time in our country.FUSO opens its 11th edition at Travessa da Ermida, on the 27th of August, with the work of the Portuguese artist Pedro Barateiro, “A Viagem Invertida (Espelho)” (“The Inverted Journey (Mirror)”). This work is based on research regarding the extraction of lithium in Portugal, and on its use, both in technology and in medicine
The various curatorial programs of FUSO 2019 are associated with the topic of sustainability. The art world has been questioning itself on its role in environmental challenges and the videos programmed by the different curators are a reflection of this problem. On the 29 th of August, work selected by Jean-François Chougnet, FUSO´s Artistic Director, by Portuguese artists or foreign artists residing in Portugal, who applied to the Open Call for the FUSO | EDP / MAAT Acquisition Award and to the FUSO | RESTART Incentive Award, will be shown in the MAAT Praça do Carvão, FUSO has renewed its partnership with Ar.Co – Escola de Arte e Comunicação Visual (School of Art and Visual Communication) with the aim of promoting and incentivizing new artists and, together with Turismo de Lisboa (The Lisbon Tourism Association), will exhibit work by students from the Imagem em Movimento (Moving Image) course, at the rate of one per day, on the 18 Canal Lisboa screens spread throughout the city, during the entire week of the festival.
FUSO 2019 is free and takes place at various spaces within the city of Lisbon: Travessa da Ermida, the Museu de Arte, Arquitectura e Tecnologia (Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology) (MAAT) Praça do Carvão, the Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea (National Museum of Contemporary Art) of Chiado Garden, the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (National Museum of Ancient Art) Garden, the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (National Museum of Natural History and Science) Cloister and the Museu da Marioneta (Puppet Museum) Cloisters.
