FUSO – Anual de Videoarte Internacional de Lisboa
Created in 2009, FUSO is the only festival with an ongoing national and international video art program in Lisbon. Juxtaposing canonic idioms with more contemporary ones, FUSO showcases video pieces which range from the fine arts to performance, cinema, literature and digital environments, advocating for a new openness to the moving image in the 21st Century.

The pieces are selected and presented by national and international curators who design programs exclusively for the festival. FUSO is committed to excellence in programming; the notoriety and experience of the invited guests guarantee the consistency and quality of the programs, which include work by internationally known artists as well as artists thus far unknown to the Portuguese public.
In addition to the proposed programs, each year FUSO also honors one or more artists who are historically and fundamentally important in video art.
The daily interaction between the curators and artists throughout the week of the festival, enables the meeting and establishing of various partnerships, creating a network of connections and collaborations.
One of the main aspects of FUSO is the promotion of new national creations. Every year, there is an Open Call contest open to Portuguese artists or foreign artists living in Portugal, with the aim of disseminating, showcasing, and motivating the production of new national work. Two prizes are awarded, the EDP/MAAT Foundation Acquisition Award, and the RESTART Incentive Award, awarding resources and the technical support for the realization of a new project.
From its inception, mobility and internationalization have been a part of FUSO. FUSO circulates throughout various cities in Portugal and other countries, presenting pieces adapted to screening or projection rooms. Currently, the Azores Islands receive FUSO INSULAR, with sessions created by national and international curators and a creative laboratory dedicated to the movement image, for young local artists. In presenting a program of excellence, FUSO fulfills its mission of fostering the development of national art, contributing to cultural diversity and the dissemination of Portuguese artists within and outside of the country.
By encouraging critical thinking around new media and promoting the enrichment of knowledge and the spread of video art within the Portuguese landscape, FUSO contributes in a significant manner to the dynamic of contemporary national art.
